Guided Fly Fishing Trips FAQ | Toccoa River Blue Ridge, Georgia
Planning a fly fishing trip on the Toccoa River? Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we get about booking a guided trip with Float North Georgia.
Do I need to have fly fishing experience?
Not at all! We guide anglers of all skill levels, from first-timers to long time return clients. Our guides are here to teach you and make sure you have a great time on the water.
Where do your trips take place?
Our guided fly fishing trips take place on the beautiful Toccoa River in Blue Ridge, Georgia. We primarily fish the Toccoa River Tailwater (below Lake Blue Ridge) and the Upper Toccoa. We also offer trips on the Tuckaseegee River in North Carolina.
What’s included in the guided trip?
All guided trips include:
Fly rods and reels
Flies, Leaders, Tippet
Cooler with waters (lunch is included on full day trips)
What should I bring with me?
Georgia fishing license with trout stamp (required)
Weather-appropriate clothing (layers work best)
Hat, sunglasses (polarized recommended), and sunscreen
Any personal gear or snacks you’d like
How long are the trips?
Most trips are half-day (4 hours) or full-day (7-8 hours). Start times vary depending on the season and river conditions.
What is the best time of year to go fly fishing in Blue Ridge?
Fly fishing on the Toccoa River is productive year-round, but spring (March - May) offers the best conditions and eager trout.
Is there an age restriction?
We typically recommend fly fishing for kids ages 10 and up. While we've had younger kids do well on trips, age 10 is when most kids really start to show genuine interest and have more productive, enjoyable days on the water.
What happens if it rains or the river is blown out?
Safety is our number one priority. If weather or river conditions make the trip unsafe or unproductive, we’ll either reschedule or issue a full refund. Your guide will contact you ahead of time if any changes need to be made.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. A Georgia fishing license with a trout stamp is required for everyone 16 and older. You can purchase one online HERE.
What’s your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 7 days’ notice for cancellations. Trips canceled within 7 days will forfeit their deposit. Weather-related cancellations and emergencies will always be rescheduled or refunded.
