Toccoa River Fishing Report: July 9, 2025

Fly Fishing in Blue Ridge, Georgia

Summer Conditions & Productive Bites on the Tailwater

July is in full swing here in Blue Ridge, GA, and the Toccoa River Tailwater continues to fish well despite afternoon storms and rising temperatures. Typical of a North Georgia summer, passing rain showers have been short and sweet—often followed by the best fishing windows of the day.

Cloudy mornings and overcast skies have trout feeding higher in the water column. If you can time your trip around the Blue Ridge Dam Generation Schedule, you’ll find productive stretches of water and fish ready to eat.

North Georgia Creek Fishing: Small Water, Big Fun

If you’re chasing wild trout this summer, the small creeks around Blue Ridge are fishing great. Late June rain and steady July flows have kept mountain streams colder and full of life.

Creeks like Noontootla, Coopers Creek, and Rock Creek are perfect spots for lightweight rods and stealthy approaches. These backcountry waters are ideal for:

  • Dry-dropper rigs

  • Small beadhead nymphs

  • Classic attractor patterns (Adams, Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis)

Upper Toccoa River Update – Post-Delayed Harvest Season

The Delayed Harvest season wrapped up in May, but float fishing on the Upper Toccoa is still producing results if you prefer less crowds. As July water temps climb, trout push toward deeper, oxygen-rich areas, especially upstream of Sandy Bottoms.

CFS Check: We strongly recommend checking the Upper Toccoa River Flow before planning your day. Avoid wading above 600 CFS.
